Restoration of the baths for the disabled people of Jorpati
In June 2008, during the construction of the Sano Sansar Children's home, we decided to allocate some of our time and resources to try and improve the facilities for disabled people within the Ortopedic Hospital of Jorpati (Katmandu).

In this area, there are two huts -one for women and the other for men. These men and women have a diverse range of disabilities, but they are able to live in these huts with support from NDA (the National Association of Handicaped People of Nepal).

With a group of young Catalan volunteers, we were able to fix the ceilings, lights, fans and curtains. We also carried out a deep clean and gave the walls some much needed coats of paint. The baths and toilets were in very bad condition, and still needed a lot of working doing to them. Moreover, the facilities had not been adapted for people with disabilities.

When we left the hospital, we decided to start a new project – a comprehensive renovation and restoration of the disabled baths in Jorpati. The toilets actually need replacing, and new drains, pipes and floor and wall tiles are also needed.

Project data:
Starting: July 2008
Status: Active. The renovation work have been totally finished in Dec.2009 but we continue giving them support in maintaining and cleaning the facilities and the provision of personal care products with no target date.
Coordinator: Raúl Montiel
Local NGO: Sano Sansar
